November 2014 and we walk into the world of rescue!
It all started in a cold night when our (today’s director) replied to a plea for help on facebook by a co rescuer for food and blankets for dogs under his wing). She replied, met with him, provided him with all she had… and then she went to see the dogs. And that is when we sampled across the 47 dogs in Akaki area, hungry, thirsty, without love in cages. They were BEGGING us to give them freedom, love, food a better life. And so we started the journey of rescue!
The truth was that we did not know what to do first!!
RESCUE started and the page “Help 47 dogs Survive this Christmas” was launched then to call upon volunteer help. We needed everyone to help in this difficult task! Many people stood by us to support us and we found a place we could keep these poor lovely doggies. Yes. We threw walls, we cleaned, we learned to make concrete, we built walls, we created dog houses and we finally welcomed our little friends. Immediately we started work on the health care – love – adoptions for these amazing dogs.
Many of our puppies were adopted and traveled abroad. Some found their forever families in Cyprus, others to England, Germany, Netherlands and Greece. They lucky ones were leaving for their new houses and new strays were coming in the shelter on daily basis.
In 2016 “Humans for Dogs-CY” is legally registered as a NON-profit organization (NGO HE344396), who defends the rights and struggles for the well-being of strays and / or maltreated dogs. The organization ‘Humans for Dogs-CY’ has a No Kill policy. The prosperity and the safe adoption of each dog is one of our priorities. Through voluntary work, we provide security, food and shelter. At the same time, our goal is the welfare of the dogs, the education of youth in regards to the welfare of pats and strays, as well as, stray rehabilitation (when needed) and their reintegration back into the society. As one of the Organization’s most important goals is to develop our education for better behavior, love and well-being of dogs in Cyprus we continue in the meantime to meet with schools to speak with the children and educate them according of course to their developmental level.
In 2018 ‘Humans for Dogs-CY’ (NGO HE344396, Tax ID no.10344396Y) is legally a registered charity and has tax exemption. And in 2019 ‘Humans for Dogs-CY’ (NGO HE344396) joins forces in a common effort of volunteers to help MORE stray dogs with many other organisations.
